After massive weight loss, patients will need some procedures to treat the laxity of the skin and the fat deposition. Care must be taken, once optimal results require a through understanding of the unique physiologic, metabolic, and anatomic findings in these patients.
Some subjects must be explained before and after bariatric surgery to educate the patient correctly regarding the following:
Areas of the body that will need to treat after the surgery
The health hazards associated with the excessive skin
The various body contouring procedure avaiable for this patients
Possible (rare) complications
The possible cosmetic outcome
In this area, we try to explain this subjects, but if you need more, email us.
The abdominoplasty are the most frequent treatment after a massive weight loss because of the contour deformities of the abdomen that apear. Traditional abdominoplasty techniques often fail to maximally improve body contour in these cases because adjacent sites such as the hip rolls and flanks are not treated, leaving the patient with large lateral tissue redundancies and "dog-ears". In an attempt to solve these problems, the anchor shape incision (a modified abdominoplasty technique), a single-stage procedure that involves a combined vertical and transverse approach in which an "en bloc" resection of the redundant tissues is performed without undermining, were we place a drain for some days, and perform a muscle tighting of the abdominal wall. In patients with simultaneous large umbilical hernias and/or excessively long stalks, neoumbilicoplasty is done.
A significant improvement of abdominal contour was obtained in the vast majority of patients because the resection design offers simultaneous treatment of both vertical and transverse tissue redundancies in the abdomen and neighboring regions, with more harmonic results when compared with purely vertical or transverse approaches (belt-surgery).
The anchor shape abdominoplasty technique is an easy, fast, and reliable alternative for treating these cases, with less intraoperative bleeding, reduced overall cost, and fast recovery (25 days). In several cases, this surgery can offer excellent results in terms of contouring and maximizes the overall outcome of treatment for these patients, who can then return to normal life with heightened self-esteem, happiness, and productivity.
The belt-surgey is indicated for specified cases where the torax are small and the redudancies are circunferencial only under the umbilicus, and no scar or little one in the upper abdomen. This tecnic has the disadvantage of the bed positioning, and a higher cost.

Bariatric surgery can result in massive, rapid weight loss. Patients who undergo this surgery can be left with significant facial and neck skin redundancy and may request restorative facial plastic surgery. Modifications of standard rhytidectomy techniques are necessary to suit the specific features of the patient after bariatric surgery.
